About me
I am Ari Calderon, a recent graduate of St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a focus in Public Relations and Advertising. My perspective is deeply rooted in the arts, and I am passionate about health and fitness. I aspire to find a career that allows me to be involved in the planning and execution of events, campaigns and projects that help companies and brands best interact with their communities. |
Leadership
St. Edward's PRSSA Chapter President
I led the PRSSA officers to offer an inclusive and informative experience for all members. With the help of the officers, I organized weekly meetings in which we discusses important topic in the world of Public Relations. I encouraged all members to contribute their ideas to make the most of the organization. We hosted four sessions of our Creative Program Series during which PRSSA Vice President, Claire Valera, led attendees through some basics of the Adobe Creative Suite. I encouraged students to connect to the PR community outside of campus buy promoting local PRSA events, matching members with PRSA mentors and organizing a group trip to a session at General Assembly. I connected with St. Edward's Alumni, Elise Flick, to collaborate with members and create a social media plan for a local Austin product. I emphasized the importance of online and in-person networking by promoting on campus Career Nights, and hosted Adrian Ramirez from the St. Edward's Career and Development Center to speak to us about the in's and out's of LinkedIn.
Apprentice Austin
Billy and Ashley Moyer lead the program that helped me stay motivated and focused during the last year of my undergraduate studies. I was matched with Sara Lasseter, who would be my mentor for the following months. She helped me navigate my curiosities and interests to set clear goals for myself. Sara allowed me to tap into her own network of friends who were working at agencies and companies I was interested in learning more about.
Group X Fitness Instructor
As a Group X Fitness Instructor at St. Edward's I was able to connect with my peers in a very unique way. I taught 2-4 classes group fitness classes a week. My Spin classes were filled with great music, high energy lots of fun. My 30-Minute Ab classes were quick and effective. St. Edward's Campus Recreation is all about making students feel comfortable and excited about being healthy on their campus. I have always been a lover of health and fitness, but getting to lead several participants every week reassured me that I want (and need) to continue finding ways play a part of the health and wellness world.
Lambda Pi Eta
Lambda Pi Eta is the official Honor Society of the National Communication Association. I was initiated along with a group of my peers at St. Edward's University in the Spring of 2016.
Austin Young Chamber of Commerce (AYC)
I joined the Austin Young Chamber of Commerce (AYC) after meeting several of the organization's members through Apprentice Austin. AYC is the fastest growing young professional’s organization in Central Texas, and it provide valuable opportunities for the professional and personal development of young professionals, in addition to promoting the general economic interest of the Austin business community. AYC hosts young professionals in career all across the board, connects me to a variety of people and helps widen my perspective.
